PSP is pretty neat machine that allows you to play games, listen to music, watch videos and view World Wide Web pages. But what about ebooks? Well, there are several options. The best situation is when ebook is in HTML format - then you can save it on the memory stick and view using web browser. If you are downloading ebooks using your psp (e.g. from http://psp.manybooks.net) default save location is /psp/common/ - and it's pretty good place to store your ebooks. To view file saved to that folder you have to type file:/psp/common/FILENAME in web browser address bar (tip: add it to bookmarks for easy access). If you don't know how to download file to your PSP don't worry - it's easy - you have to highlight download link, press triangle /\, choose "Save Link Target" from file menu and enter download location.
Ok, but what about other ebook formats? If you have electronic book in some kind of editable format, it shouldn't be a problem - e.g. if your ebook is Microsoft Word file and you own MS Word or other editor capable of opening this file type - then all you have to do is to open your ebook and choose "Save as" from File menu and choose format that PSP will read - txt or HTML. I suggest using html if there are some kind of graphics (remember to upload them to your PSP along html file) or fancy colors/ formatting in your ebook. In other cases choose .txt.
Txt ebooks can be customized using psp ebook creator - http://www.parablax.co.uk/tutorial.html. This software allows you to change font type & size, add background images, page numbers etc. The only downside is the fact that output files are jpeg graphic files, which are easy to read using PSP photo viewer (if the ebook isn't too long), but also takes pretty big amount of space on your memory stick.
Another very common format for ebooks is pdf, however PSP doesn't support it. Acrobat Reader provides option "save as text" which may be good choice for simple files without images and heavy formatting - file saved using this option can be viewed via PSP web browser. For more complex documents you should convert pdfs to HTML file format - freeware pdftohtml application is a good & fast tool for this - http://pdftohtml.sourceforge.net. If layout of output HTML files isn't good enough you can convert pdf to images using free PDF-Xchange Viewer (http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_user/pdfx_viewer/).
If you PSP is running custom firmware, then you have wealth of additional options. Instead converting pdf file you can try to view it directly using Bookr (http://sourceforge.net/projects/bookr/) or psppdf (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/223) software. Bookr is full-featured application with user friendly interface, configurable controls and lot of additional features such as bookmarks, zoom, custom fonts support and ability to overclock/underclock PSP CPU which can be handy when you want to preserve energy (e.g. when working with txt files - then you underclock) or view big documents with lots of graphics (then you overclock). psppdf doesn't have many functions besides opening and scrolling pdf file. Bookr, despite much more features & eye-candy interface is more stable than psppdf, but both applications have some stability problems, especially with large pdf files. Not all pdf documents can be properly viewed on PSP - some will fail on both applications. In such case there is no other option than converting it. Bookr support viewing txt files - it's pretty convenient, because you can scroll by pages instead by lines, add bookmarks and use underclocked mode to save energy.
