GameStop
announced today that it will be opening a new store that will host
videogame tournaments as well as sell games. The San Jose, California
store comes equipped with 24 networked gaming stations, and is the
first in a line of tournament-focused stores.
Tournaments will occur most weekends and include “GameStop system-wide tournament finals occurring at least once a quarter.” The first event will take place noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 15. The game being played is Madden NFL ‘08, and the grand prize is a $1,000 shopping spree.
There was no announcement about how many tournament-focused stores GameStop plans to open, but I know I would be very excited if they were to open one in Canada.
