People have been wondering whether this would happen, but squaresoft says they aren't making it.  I think they are even so... just to surprise the fans afterword.  However, some people don't like the idea of a remake, fearing many parts of the game would be cut off or edited.  Thus causing a loss of quality in the game.  I say all the editing required for the game is just the graphics and then leave everything else alone.  Perhaps some more sidequests or something, but no change to the story.
